Holiner, Richard: COLLECTING BARBER BOTTLES - PICTORIAL PRICE GUIDE WITH HISTORY

Collector Books, Paducah, KY, USA, 1986. ISBN 0-89145-318-0. In English. Hardcover with dustwrapper. 127 pages, 115 colour photos, 10 colour plates.
The book shows about 250 barber bottles (plus a small number of related glass containers) in wonderful -- mostly full-page -- colour photos. Added are 10 pages reproduced from an old colour barber supply catalog showing barber bottles and other glassware.
From the blurb:
From around the 1870's until the turn of the century, many barbers mixed their own tonics and facial splashes. When the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 restricted the use of alcohol-based substances in unlabeled and re-fillable containers, barber bottles were no longer used for their original purpose.
The beauty of these bottles is the reason that so many have survived and are in collections today. Barber bottles were made from art glass, milk glass, fancy pressed and cut glass. Enameled and colored bottles were also very popular.
This full color book spotlights the beauty of the many varied types and styles of barber bottles and provides the collector with identification information as well as current market value.

Zaoui, Myriam; Malka, Eric; Salinger, Susan: THE ART OF SHAVING

Clarkson Potter Publishers, New York, NY, USA, 2002. ISBN 0-609-60915-7. In English. Hardcover with dustwrapper. 96 pages, photos.
The average man shaves approximately 20,000 times over the course of his life. As he removes each new crop of whiskers, he inevitably reaps some unfortunate byproducts - including cuts, rashes and the arrival of 'five o'clock shadow' right around lunchtime. THE ART OF SHAVING addresses these problems head-on. A light-hearted but authoritative discussion of shaving techniques and products, it reveals why foam gels are back (and why depilatories are worse) and explains how to choose the right brush, razor, and blade, lather up, and execute a smooth, nick-free shave. Illustrated with striking duotone photographs, THE ART OF SHAVING has the same appeal as such popular books as THE ART OF DOING NOTHING and the Chic Simple series - an ideal gift.
